Tuesday 1-20-2015: Get the book, i.e. Kittel, Introduction to Solid State Physics, 8th edition. Reach chapter 1, pages 3-22. Work problems 1, 2, and 3 on page 22 of Kittel. Also work the problems 2.1, 2.2, annd 2.3 of the handout.
Thursday 1-22-2014: work throught the overheadsheets of Dr. Myles of Chapter 1, that can be found here: presentation1, presentation 2, presentation 3, presentation 4, presentation 5.
Tuesday 1-27-2015: Read chapter 2, pp. 25-32 + work the following problems, i.e. assignment HW2.1. Study the presentation of Drs. Anandh Subramaniam & Kantesh Balani about voids.
Thursday 1-29-2015: Read chapter 2 pages 33-38 and study the following handout Diffraction + work the following problems HW2.2.
Tuesday 2-3-2015: Read chapter 2 pages 38-44 + work the following problems HW2_3 . Note that there is a fat bonus for the first that can explain to me the step from the corrected equation (5) to equation (51).

Be careful, I'm sure that there are errors in some of the problems, so double check carefully. I can give you extra bonus if you find errors in this handout and report them to me. Please have a look at it before the test on Thurday. Also bring your own equation sheet to the test on Thursday: One page only equations, no text and no worked out problems.

Thursday 4-30-2015: Reading assignment special handout. A summary of chapter 7 can be found here. Those of you who want to do the rewrite on the test have to submit the rewrite before 10:00 am on Monday May 4. you have to submit and the rewrite and the graded original exam.
Friday 5-8-2015: Exam questions due by 5:00 PM by e-mail. Please submit in MS Word format. Those of you that submit a good question earn 15% credit towards the last semester exam. The compilation with tentative exam questions can be found here
Tuesday 5-12-2015: make up class. We will meet at 9:30 to make up for the miseed class in March. We will work through the exam questions you all submitted.
