Tôi trở về Việt Nam (I return to Vietnam)

Xin chaò các bạn (Hello everyone)!

Please feel free to ride along as I return to Vietnam on a year-long developmental leave. I am very excited to be returning to see my Vietnamese friends, continue my research with the help of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) in Hanoi, and enjoy the wonderful food and culture that is Vietnam.

This pseudo-blog is not about my developmental leave research project (how boring would that be?). This is a snapshot of my return to the "*Land of the Ascending Dragon”. A picture of my ongoing fascination with a country and its people. A place that has a deep and rich history and culture reaching back thousands and thousands of years**. In spirit, it is intended to be a continuation of the cultural ambassadorship I began in 2018-2019 while on my Fulbright Scholar Grant.

*The dragon has long been an important part of Vietnamese culture and if you check out a world map that shows Vietnam, it really does look like Vietnam is a dragon climbing the edge of southeast Asia.

**The last time I was here (2018-2019), archeologists were excavating a site near the Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long in central Hanoi and found pottery and campfire remnants that were thought to be ~10,000 years old!
