I worked on three different projects for my REU:
[a] Realization of a z-coil-set for a triaxial Vibrating Sample Magnetometer. A coil-winder was modified, spools were designed and 3D printed, coils were wound on the realized spools, the realized coil set was characterized and tested. this work was done under supervsion of Leo Rodriguez and Arjun Sapkota.
[b] Magnetic characterization of different samples taken from a hard magnetic 3D printer filament. Measurements were made on a sample taken from the center of the filament and a sample taken from the cylindrical surface area of the filament. The anisotropy of the different samples was determined by measuring the magnetic hysteresis curves in different direction. This work was done in collaboration with Gabriela Espinoza.
[c] Realization of a cooling stage for a Raman spectrometer using of-the-shelf PC water cooling components and a 3D printer. A low budget stage that is able to cool the thin films below freezing was realized for $80.00. When testing the stage on perovskite thin film samples a real time phase transformation was observed through the optical microscope of the Raman setup. This project was supervised by Ripon Mahamudujjaman.
