The capabilities of 3D printing within the engineering industry have been rapidly evolving to diversify its applications such as the newly developed process of Magnetic Field Assisted Additive Manufacturing (MFAAM). This type of manufacturing aims at printing anisotropic magnets by taking advantage of an external magnetic field during the process of 3D printing the magnetic composites. Particles will orient their dipole moment parallel to the applied direction and move themselves into chains along the external field lines. By using a Bi-axial VSM machine torque measurements were taken to determine the magnetic anisotropic constants for samples annealed in a magnetic field for different amount of time. The materials investigated is a magnetic composite consisting of 40 wt% Strontium-Ferrite and Nylon (PA-12).

Chris is studying Aerospace Engineering at TAMU in College Station and expects to graduate in December 2023.
