    • The deadline for admission into the Student Affairs in Higher Education program is January 15. It is highly recommended that you begin your application well in advance of the deadline in order to provide your recommenders ample time to submit the recommendations that are required in order to mark your application as complete.
    • If you encounter issues with the online application process please email Missy Bentley at in the Texas State University Graduate College for assistance.
    • GRE scores are not required for admission into the program.  This change was effective as of the Fall 2019 application cycle.
  • The following transcripts should be submitted as part of the application process:

    • Copies of official transcripts of all college and university course work should be submitted to The Graduate College.  This includes any institutions where you enrolled in courses toward your degree including community colleges. Instructions on how to submit the transcripts are included in the Application to the Texas State Graduate College.
      • Note: If you are currently a student (i.e., enrolled in courses) we will need transcripts that reflect your most recent semester (i.e. Fall) coursework. If you apply for the program prior to the end of the Fall semester, submit a transcript at that time. In addition, please submit the most updated copy of your transcript as soon as Fall grades are posted.
      • Note: If you are a Texas State University degree recipient or are currently enrolled at Texas State, please request transcripts from any colleges NOT listed on your Texas State transcript. The Graduate College will provide your Texas State transcript to the admissions committee for you.

We highly recommend you request transcripts be submitted to the Graduate College at least 2 weeks prior to the program application deadline.

  • You will upload a current professional resume and a statement of purpose in the application system. Guidelines for these two documents are provided in the links below:

  • Three recommenders—at least two of whom know you professionally—should submit a recommendation for you. You will provide names and contact information for each recommender in the Application to the Texas State Graduate College, and your identified recommenders will receive an email with directions on how to submit their recommendation.

Admission Process

Each year the admissions committee recommends approximately 20 new students for admission to the Student Affairs in Higher Education program for the fall semester. The program is a cohort-based program that is designed for students to complete in two years. Students will enroll in all core classes together as a group until they graduate from Texas State.
Applicants will be reviewed holistically, and the following material and criteria are be considered in the decision process:
  • GPA: Competitive GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work (plus any completed graduate courses). Note: Because we use a holistic application process we do not a minimum GPA requirement for the program. However, the minimum GPA set by the Texas State University Graduate College is a 2.75 in the last 60 hours of coursework.
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Resume
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
Once all admissions materials are received, the admissions committee will review all applications in full.  After the initial review of applications, qualified applicants are invited to campus during the spring semester to interview for admission into the program and interview for open graduate assistantship positions.
The SAHE Program Interviews, which take place on campus, are typically scheduled for the end of February. More information about what to expect from SAHE Program Interviews can be found here
