Foundation Outreach, Cultivation & Proposal Development
In this session, attendees will learn when and how the pursuit of foundation funding may offer an alternative to or a complement to federal funding. A Hanover Grants Consultant will describe foundation funders unique approach to grant funding, how investigators may identify foundations aligned with their research goals, and how investigators may create unique outreach and cultivation plans to attract foundation support. We will discuss similarities and differences between competitive foundation proposals versus federal proposals and ways federal proposals may be repurposed for foundation funders.

Responding to Reviewer Comments & Resubmission Strategie
This presentation will help investigators who have submitted proposals that were not awarded, understand reviewer comments and scores and provide direction on responding to reviewer comments. A Hanover Grants Consultant will discuss a typical review panel and review process, how to prioritize responses to reviewer critiques, and considerations for new proposals vs resubmissions (as relevant). Attendees will walk through example reviews and associated responses to explore best practices associated with competitive resubmissions.

Creating a Timeline for Developing & Submitting a Grant
This training will cover each step of the grant preparation timeline from the development of a general idea or research question through to submission. A Hanover Grants Consultant will outline appropriate proposal development milestones leading to competitive proposals submissions. Milestones covered include literature reviews, contacting a program officer, recruiting statisticians/evaluators, developing a budget, and accounting for internal submission procedures.

Crafting Specific Aims or Objectives
Attendees will cover concept framing, required elements of a Project Summary or Specific Aims document, and how to validate these proposal elements using agency review criteria. A Hanover Grants Consultant will emphasize the importance of these documents to the review process. We will also discuss how these documents may be used to solicit program officer feedback, recruit team members, request recommendations from colleagues, and spur conversation with department chairs or deans.

Proposal Basics (Biosketches, Budgets, Etc.)
This session will cover standard proposal components - their purpose, associated terminology, and general guidelines. We will walk through the creation of a compelling and creative narrative and cover associated ancillary documents, including biosketches, budgets and budget justifications, facilities and environment documentation, data management plans, post-doc mentoring plans, and other miscellaneous requirements.
