Advocates for Veterans

Student Veterans Of America

The heart of SVA is the student-led chapter. SVA supports a network of over 1,300 schools and over 500,000 student veterans. At the individual level, SVA empowers veterans to be informed consumers of higher education and make the most of the transition to civilian life.

Veterans Advisory Council

The Veterans Advisory Council (VAC) was created in November 2008 to bring together faculty and staff who had an interest in assisting student veterans at Texas State as well as combine efforts and resources to better serve our students.

Our Mission: Provide advice and support for services and programs designed to facilitate the smooth transition of military veteran students to college and to promote veteran student success.

Veterans Initiative

The Veterans Initiative, directed by Dr. Katherine Selber, Professor for the School of Social Work, is a model of transitional, comprehensive, and empirical research and needs assessments, partnerships that help the campus be responsive, and active outreach and follow-up that engages student veterans in a variety
of venues.

The Veterans Initiative strives to provide innovative support to this generation of student veterans with services that assist, educate, and empower them to transition from the military to the university.
