Texas State Punctuation Usage and Grammar (PUG) Requirements

 

Effective Fall 2019 admission requirements to the School Of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) are changing. Among the goals of this change are allowing students to enter the program sooner and to better prepare them for coursework in the program.

Admission Policy Effective Fall 2019

  • 30 or more credit hours
  • An overall GPA of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • A grade of a "C" or higher in the following courses or their equivalents:
    • MC 1100B
    • MC 1301

Current Admission Policy

  • <30 or more credit hours
  • An overall GPA of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • A grade of a "C" or higher in the following courses or their equivalents:
    • ENG 1310
    • ENG 1320
    • COMM 1310
    • MC 1100B or the PUG test (70 or higher
    • MC 1301

Students who don’t meet the current admission policy by August 23, 2019 will be subject to the new admission policy.
