Southwest Seminar in Continental Philosophy

Travel, Lodging, and Related Information

Conference Location

All talks and keynote addresses will take place in Flowers Hall on Texas State University's San Marcos campus.

Airport

San Marcos is located between Austin and San Antonio. It is almost always better (more affordable and easier for heading to San Marcos) to use Austin-Bergstrom International Airport

Airport to San Marcos

SuperShuttle is a reliable way to get from the airport to San Marcos. In recent years they have become increasingly pricey, making services like Uber and Lyft competitive, if not preferable.

Here is a comprehensive rundown of options for getting from Austin-Bergstrom to San Marcos.

Lodging in San Marcos

There are two hotels in San Marcos that offer a discount for participants in this year's SWSCP, so make sure to mention that you are a guest of Texas State University and that you are part of the Southwest Seminar in Continental Philosophy.

Hilton Garden Inn, San Marcos - 512.878.4411

Use the group code SWSCP when booking and make your reservation by Monday, May 16th for the discounted rate. Note that, while the accommodation is nicer and more modern, this hotel is comparatively further from campus (2.7 miles) than other local amenities.

Comfort Suites, San Marcos - 512.392.1006

Give the name of the conference to secure the discounted rate. This hotel has a variety of dining options nearby and is relatively near downtown San Marcos and campus (1.7 miles)

Parking on Campus

There are parking garages close to Flowers Hall, where the conference will take place. Here is information about guest parking on campus, including locations and fees.

If you want to avoid parking fees most of the street parking near campus has a 2 hour limit, but there is some parking in the neighborhoods south and west of campus (near Jo's Cafe), which would be a 1/2-3/4 mile walk from Flowers Hall.

Saturday Excursion

In keeping with SWSCP tradition, you are invited to take part in a group excursion on Saturday, the 4th. We will head to the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment, located a stone's throw from campus, to enjoy a glass bottom boat tour of Spring Lake, which is the origin of the San Marcos river.

Additional Recreation

We also recommend that you bring a swimsuit so that you can enjoy taking a dive into the river during conference downtime, if you like. The weather is likely to be sunny and warm, and the river is reliably clear and cool year round. Even if you don't care to take a swim, we recommend going for a stroll alongside the river to enjoy the scenery while you're in town.
