Why does the university prepare an Affirmative Action Plan?
Because Texas State University has $50,000 or more in annual contracts with the federal government, we are considered a federal government supply and service contractor and therefore subject to the affirmative action requirements of Executive Order 11246, Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Vietnam Era Veteran’s Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA). Per these regulations, we are required to prepare an annual written Affirmative Action Plan (AAP).
What is the Affirmative Action Plan?
'Affirmative Action' is a term that encompasses any measures adopted by the university to correct or to compensate for past or present discrimination or to prevent discrimination from occurring in the future. The Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) encompasses minorities identifying as Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Two or More Races, as well as women, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. The AAP has been designed to bring women, men, members of minority groups, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities into all levels and segments of the university's workforce in proportion to their representation in the relevant labor market.
