Texas State breaks ground on Academic Center

Texas State University-San Marcos held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Undergraduate Academic Center Thursday, June 17, at the Nueces Building Mall on the Texas State campus.


Participating in the groundbreaking and pictured, left to right, are Ron Brown, dean of the University College at Texas State; Brian McCall, chancellor of the Texas State University System; Texas State President Denise Trauth; Texas State Provost Perry Moore; Ann Marie Ellis, dean of the Texas State College of Liberal Arts; State Sen. Jeff Wentworth, State Rep. Patrick Rose; and Chris Covo, student regent of the Texas State University System.


The 130,000 square foot Undergraduate Academic Center will be built at the intersection of Guadalupe and Woods streets. The Center will support freshman academics and bring key student support services under one roof, including the university’s Personalized Academic and Career Exploration (PACE) Center, the University College, University Seminar and the Texas Success Initiative Program. The departments of Psychology, Political Science and Sociology will also be housed at the Center.


The architects/engineers for the project are Morris Architects & Ayers Saint Gross. The general contractor is Flintco. The building is scheduled for completion in October of 2012.
