2020 Mathworks PMWC Team Announced

San Marcos, TX - December 19, 2019

Mathworks at Texas State University announces the four top students who have performed admirably in the 2019 Mathworks Math Contest.  These students will represent Texas at the 2020 Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC) in Hong Kong.  The PWMC is an international math competition for middle school students, drawing more than 40 teams from across the world each year.

The Mathworks team members are:

  • Katherine Liu, Sugar Land, TX
  • Jason Mao, Towaco, NJ
  • Jessie Wang, Allen, TX
  • Alex Zheng, Plano, TX

Mathworks administers the qualifying test to help select the four team members, as well as identify promising applicants for the residential Junior Summer Math Camp (JSMC) held at Texas State University.  More than 483 students from across the US from 79 school took the qualifying test this year, with an average score of 4.7 out of 15.  The team members will be participants in the 2020 residential JSMC and then travel to Hong Kong for the PMWC, in July.

Mathworks has participated in the PMWC since 2001 and as of March 2019, the Mathworks team has won first place in the world 3 times! Fantastic work!
