TSIE Faculty Professional Development
The Texas State Intensive English (TSIE) program offers professional development training for international teachers of English as a foreign language. Courses in writing, speaking, teaching methods and culture provide practitioners an opportunity to refresh philosophies, improve English skills and adopt updated pedagogic practices to meet unique teaching environments and learner profiles.
Programs are offered in both face to face and online formats. Hybrid learning modules are also available. Scheduling accommodates teacher availability and includes shorter and longer duration options. For face to face formats, accommodations are available during summer and winter seasons.
TSIE’s faculty professional development curriculum emphasizes a focus on content so that teachers develop within their classroom contexts. Training is oriented to active learning and collaborative opportunity so that positive change takes place. Best practice models are shared and applied so that teachers reflect on their own teaching, moving themselves toward improvement (Effective Teacher Professional Development. Palo Alto, CA: Learning Policy Institute). Above all, participants become better teachers of English as a foreign language.
TSIE follows Texas State University policy that governs inter-institutional agreements. A memorandum of understanding and fee for services agreement are the standard foundation documents, and proposals to complete work include costs and requested budget considerations.
