By Sue Breland

Texas State University’s William P. Hobby Center for Public Service graduated thirty-six new Texas Certified Public Managers® at the Texas State Capitol on Monday December 10, 2018. The CPM graduates and their families came from CPM Programs at the following locations: Arlington, Houston, Edinburg, Nacogdoches, Round Rock, and San Marcos Texas. The graduates participated in CPM Programs offered by the following universities, Texas State, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, the University of Houston and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The Graduation Speaker, Bert Lumbreras, City Manager of San Marcos, spoke on Leadership, especially in Public Service.  Leaders are professionals who must be dedicated to the highest ideals of honor and integrity and to serve ALL the people. We can all be leaders at any level of our organization. “To lead is to serve, to give, and to achieve together.” You can watch Mr. Lumbreras’ speech online below.

Additionally, two of our long-time Texas CPM Directors are retiring and were recognized: Don Moore, Director of the Sam Houston State University Program and David Tees, Director of the Texas State University Arlington Program. Mr. Moore was presented with a plaque acknowledging his many years of service to our program. Mr. Tees, who was unable to attend the graduation ceremony, will be honored in Arlington in January. It was announced that James R. Earp, CPM and Assistant City Manager of Kyle Texas, will transition into the role of the Arlington area Program Director.
