Video Introduction: Theme and Book

As part of the Common Experience, all freshmen receive a critically acclaimed book related to the upcoming year’s theme. You will read the book as you prepare for classes, then engage in discussion of the text and theme in your University Seminar course. You will also participate in Common Experience events throughout the year.

The Common Experience theme for 2017-2018 is "The Search for Justice: Our Response to Crime in the 21st Century." In the year ahead, you will explore some of the most important questions facing the world: What does it mean to be ethical? What does it mean to be fair? What does it mean to be just? These questions will impact you in every aspect of life, in any major — and in any career. This year's Common Reading book is Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson.
