Frequently Asked Questions - Custom Regalia

Expand All Content
  • The practice of customizing regalia has become increasingly popular among colleges and universities. Custom regalia often includes school colors, logos, and other elements differentiated from the traditional black gown, which generates a more distinguished look for graduating candidates. Custom regalia for Texas State graduates will be as follows:

    • Doctoral regalia – maroon gown, black velvet accents, university seal
    • Specialist and master's regalia – black gown, maroon accents, Texas State stacked logo
    • Bachelor's regalia – black gown, maroon and gold accents, Texas State stacked logo; optional Texas State stole
  • Custom regalia was recommended by both the Graduate House and Student Government through formal legislation. A Student Regalia Committee was formed of staff and students to explore regalia options and meet with potential vendors. Custom regalia will be adopted for all doctoral, specialist, master’s, and bachelor’s graduates.

Academic regalia is the most regal and visible symbol of academic achievement. Offering customized regalia with university colors and logos promotes a celebratory commencement experience which fosters a sense of identity among current candidates and alumni.

  • March 1-3, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University Bookstore on the San Marcos Campus, our official commencement photographer (Flash Photography) will be on site to take photo portraits. Custom regalia will be on site for this photo opportunity.

  • For spring 2022, custom regalia should be preordered directly through the University Bookstore.
