Rick Griffith is a British West-Indian graphic designer, letterpress printer, curator, DJ. His work is an erudite exploration of language, history, politics, science, music, and ethics—with typography at its center. He is a passionate advocate for understanding the value of design. Rick was born and raised in Southeast London and immigrated to the U.S. in the ‘80s. It was his early jobs at Washington D.C. record stores and his later immersion in graveyard shift reprographics that turned him on to graphic design.
He currently helps run MATTER, which, over the last two decades, has grown into an ambidextrous design consultancy, print shop, think tank, and retail bookstore. As Design Director at MATTER, Rick works across all media for business, culture, civic engagement, and system change in education with his partner and staff.
