Alvin Schexnider (he/him) is a an equity designer, bizops strategist, and speculative futures artist. He is the Senior Equity Design Strategist on Capital One’s recently formed Equity by Design team, within Experience Strategy. Previously he was the Chief People Officer of the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), hired to help enhance the agency's employee experience. Prior roles Alvin's served in include: Operations Program Manager for IDHS focusing on strategy, operations, and service design projects; Adjunct Professor of Equity Design at Loyola University Chicago; COO of Erie Neighborhood House, a midsized nonprofit providing services within the Chicago immigrant community; serving as the first Director of Operations at Greater Good Studio, a social design firm, and Change Program Manager for organizational change at Abbott Laboratories' China HQ in Shanghai.
Alvin also runs GraffitiVersal, LLC. Influenced by organizers, designers, artists, and futurists, GraffitiVersal was founded to help our community envision equitable futures. They create design tools like the Racial DeckEquity Cardset to help people co-create a more just present and co-envision a more just future, and two new cardsets - Design DeckEquity and Future DeckEquity - are slated to be released in 2022.
Alvin completed a bachelor’s in political science from Morehouse College, a master’s in management & organizations from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Carlson School of Management, and spent a full year at the London School of Economics via the Luard Scholarship. He also studied user experience design at DesignLab and holds an accreditation as a Service Design Practitioner (SDP) with the Service Design Network.
Outside of work and parenting Alvin occasionally does art, exploring topics of the Black Speculative / Afrofuturism with visual collages.
