Bobcat Marching Band Percussion 

The Texas State Bobcat Marching Band drumline and front ensemble has enjoyed a rich history of performance excellence. Consisting of approximately 50 members, the drumline and front ensemble perform regularly with the BMB at football games and other athletic events, and has performed at conferences and exhibitions across the nation.

The marching percussion sections are open to any Texas State student regardless of major.

The Marching Percussion Coordinator is Professor Jordan Stern.

 

VIDEO AUDITION MATERIAL NEEDED FOR 2022-2023 SEASON

Percussion auditions will take place during the first day of preseason camp. We will also be having a video pre-audition in order to provide feedback to auditionees and possibly make suggestions about where we think the auditionee will best fit into the ensemble. 

Battery: Snare, Tenors, and Bass Drum (learn bass 2 part): Sweet n' low cadence. On drum pad, with metronome set to 112 BPM. Make sure the video shows both your hands and your feet. 

Cymbals: Cymbal audition exercise, marking time with metronome set to 120 bpm, clapping hands (no cymbals needed for pre-audition). Make sure the video shows both your hands and your feet.

Front Ensemble: See below for specific instrument requirements.

  • Keyboards: 2 minute excerpt of a four mallet solo of your choice.
  • Drum Set: record yourself playing various styles (rock, latin, funk, swing, etc.)
  • Electric Bass: demonstrate various styles (walking jazz bass line, funk, latin)
  • Synthesizer: submit a 2 minute excerpt of a solo piano work.

YOU MAY SUBMIT MULTIPLE AUDITION VIDEOS ON VARIOUS INSTRUMENTS. (See the submission form for details)
