Message from the Chair

Dr. Elizabeth Erhart, Anthropology Department Chair

Welcome to the Department of Anthropology at Texas State University. We are proud of the educational opportunities we provide to our students both inside and outside the classroom. As anthropologists we are committed to examining how humanity has developed differences and similarities through time and space, and how we can involve our students in these investigations. Excellence in research, teaching, and service are the foundations of our department.

Our full-time faculty members contribute excellent mentoring and career advising to both undergraduate and graduate majors, as well as opportunities for students to participate in active research projects. Students find that our program provides a solid preparation for professional study and a springboard to a variety of careers in a wide range of fields.

We provide a diverse array of vibrant, intellectually challenging courses for undergraduates working towards their Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees, with small class sizes and wide access to leading researchers in their respective fields. Our Master of Arts program is relatively small and highly selective, and provides the highest quality anthropology education to our graduate students, preparing them for PhD level studies or professional careers through concentrated coursework, fieldwork and research.
