In 2005, Forrester Research, Inc. rated Austin the number one wired city. Austin's wireless infrastructure is ranked third behind Seattle and San Francisco-San Jose. According to a July 2005 ranking by Forrester, Austin sets the standard and was used as the benchmark for the rankings. The index factored in the proportion of residents who go online, use broadband connections and own a personal computer.
