Outstanding University Seminar Faculty Award

About:

The Outstanding University Seminar Faculty award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the academic and/or personal lives of first-year students.

Eligibility:

  • Minimum of two fall semesters teaching US 1100
  • Significant contribution to the lives of students taking US 1100, as demonstrated by activities in and out of the classroom
  • In accordance with US 1100 curriculum expectations, demonstrates creativity and engagement with “best practices” in teaching and learning

Nomination Procedures:

Faculty may be nominated by another US 1100 faculty member, a Peer Mentor who assisted with the faculty member’s class, by a Texas State staff/faculty member with knowledge of the person’s engagement with US 1100, or by a Texas State student. Faculty may also self-nominate.

Upon receiving the nomination, the University College Academic Programs office will contact the faculty member to notify the nominees of documentation needed, if not on file through university records: most recent resume or CV; 1-page, single-spaced teaching philosophy with specific reference to US 1100;

US 1100 syllabus; SPIs from the previous two US 1100 sections taught.

Award:

A committee will review the nominees’ materials and choose one awardee. The committee will be composed of five members of the campus community with knowledge of University Seminar and/or First-Year programs and services. One of the members of the committee will be a student.

Each winner will receive a plaque and a $1,000 cash award and will be recognized at US 1100 Faculty Development and on the University Seminar website.

Nominations should be received by midnight on May 4. Selection will occur prior to August faculty development.
