About SURF

The Student Undergraduate Research Fund is supported by several university and non-university entities, this fund has been created to inspire and support independent undergraduate research by Texas State Students. 

2012-2013 Fund Sources: 

Mind Science Foundation

$5,000 funding available for research projects related to the study of consciousness. 

Honors College

$3,000 funding available to support Honors Thesis research.

Freeman Ranch Fund

$1,000 funding available to support research that is conducted at the Freeman Ranch

Tri-M Foundation Research Fund 

$1,000 funding available to support research and creative projects in the media and arts.

College and Specific Funds 

Multiple $1,000 allotments available, funding from College of Science and Engineering, College of Health Professions, and the College of Liberal Arts to support students and faculty in those colleges.

AVP General Research Fund

$6,000 available funding from the Associate Vice President for Research to support research in any field.

SURF Grant Recipients Presenting their Research at the Undergraduate Research Conference

Please Note: 
Proposals may qualify for funding from more than one source. Applicants for SURF funding can indicate any special funding category (such as Mind Sciences, Freeman Ranch, Honors Thesis, etc...) for which they are applying during the online application process

Students interested in applying for research funding must submit a research proposal online (see the Apply for Funding page). The SURF Grant Review Committee accepts and reviews proposals 3 times during each fall and spring semester. 

Successful applicants are required to present their work at the Honors Thesis Forum or the Undergraduate Research Conference.
