As part of the Common Experience at Texas State University, the Common Reading Program provides all incoming freshmen with a critically acclaimed book related to the upcoming year's theme. You will read the book during the summer, then engage in discussion of the text in your University Seminar classes at Texas State. You will also participate in Common Experience events throughout the year.
The Common Experience theme for 2014-2015 is "Exploring Democracy’s Promise: From Segregation to Integration." This theme highlights the 50th anniversary of Texas State's integration. It also marks the 50th anniversary of many of President Lyndon B. Johnson's programs aimed at eliminating extreme poverty and racial injustice. This year's Common Reading book is Coming of Age in Mississippi, the classic autobiography by Anne Moody.
