Drs. Fleuriet and Moore discussed the advantages of the CLA (VSA) for assessment.

Changes implemented by September to have as much data as possible

CLA-Collegiate Learning Assessment

VSA-Voluntary System of Accountability

CLA is for entering freshman and departing seniors (writing, critical thinking and problem solving)

CAP and MAP are content based

Pay students to take the CLA

Some of the others are to open so we are seriously recommending CLA

Native students will be selected

Computer based (written)

Assessment will focus on the group and not the individual (no identifier)

Motion:

The Council recommends that Texas State adopts the use of the CLA as the institutional method for general education assessment.  T. Hindson so moves.  C. McCall seconds the motion.

Motion passed unanimously.

Meeting in July.  Will send out reports as soon as they are all posted.

Meeting adjourned 4.28 p.m.
