GEC will need to meet next week to review the learning outcomes.

Notebook contains:
Component
Component Table
2007-2008 Learning Outcomes and Results
2008-2009 Learning Outcomes
Suggested definitions for the competencies

Individual courses
-Fine Arts-same course taught by 3 departments so the learning outcomes should be the same
-Natural science and social science-courses taken for core do not satisfy course requirements for the major  (Ex: Psychology majors take PSY 1300 as part of major requirements so they need to take another social science to meet core requirements)

Common course learning outcomes
-Maybe possible of all science courses to have one learning outcome that is the same across all natural science courses in the core

We do not know how SACS will evaluate us (off-site reviewers have not been trained yet)

R. Brown is asking for guidance from the General Education Council if they want to have one common learning outcome for the natural science courses and one common learning outcome for the social science courses.

Suggestion
-Add the request as part of the spring action plan for 2009-2010

SACS Conference in San Antonio (Dec. 6-8)
-Please contact Sarah at sp15 if you are interested in attending (R. Brown will pay)

Review the learning outcomes printed in your binder and make recommendations before next weeks meeting
-Bring the ones that are problems to the next meeting

Competencies
-Suggested definitions from Dr. Ryser
-Suggested revisions (will resend document will all suggested corrections and changes)
-Find out how competencies are used post-general education

Meeting next week to adopt learning outcomes

Meeting adjourned at 4:53 p.m.
