Meeting convened at 3:31 p.m.

Motion:
R. Brown asks for a motion to approve the minutes from February 27, 2006.  B. Melzer so moves.  R. Northcutt seconds the motion.  The February 27th minutes are approved as prepared.

Dr. Sandra Mayo, Jordan Anderson and Kyle Morris talked about the Multicultural and Gender Studies Core Curriculum Requirement.
-Original ASG legislation wanted all students to take a multicultural (MC) course
-Dr. Mayo has created an instrument that allows for many courses across campus to be designated as MC
-When looking for a course that already met the requirements we found we have a course that already exits and meets the requirements--Comm 1310 has been designated as MC and 60% of Texas State students take this course at our university
-They do not want to change your course or how you teach it, but label it as MC if it meets the requirements (labeling what already exits)
-1st legislation was amended from requiring all students to have MC to finding courses that already meet the definition (found many) which means students are getting the MC course we want them to get
-It was suggested if you want to make it a graduation requirement the proposal needs to come through this body

Provost, Deans and Chairs accepted the definition for Multicultural and Gender Studies

Going with infusion model with what already exists

Handout from Dr. Jeff Gordon

Next meeting Dr. Jeff Gordon will visit the council to discuss his views about core curriculum and his article from the Star
-He wants a more coherent core curriculum and theme in all courses across campus
-We don’t view this as an issue, but will hear the information

Motion:

A recommendation was made to limit Dr. Jeff Gordon to 15 minutes to share the information he wishes to share with the council.
B. Stone so moved.  R. Northcutt seconded the motion.

Motion passed unanimously.

Meeting adjourned at 4:16 p.m.
