   1)   Students should demonstrate awareness of a wide variety of works in the arts and humanities.

    2)   Students should present and explain the historical and social context in which a given work of art was created

    3)   Students should articulate the meaning/meanings of a given work of art within a historical and social context

     4)   Students should present and explain given works of art in the context of an individual artist’s career, aesthetic convictions and/or personal history.

     5)   Students should articulate the elements which make up works in the various artistic disciplines.

     6)   Students should comprehend historical and social influences upon critical procedures and values applied to the arts.

      7)   Students should apply the principles of critical and aesthetic judgment

      8)   Students should comprehend and articulate the concept of aesthetic principles and the elements which comprise the works within various artistic disciplines

      9)   Students should define principles within an artistic discipline

     10)  Students should demonstrate knowledge of a historical survey of the arts within a culture.

     11)   Students should comprehend the influence of philosophy and its impact on various arts across cultures and within cultures.

    1)   Students should be able to identify philosophical issues.

    2)   Students should be able to read philosophical texts and understand contributions of major philosophers.

    3)   Students should be able to understand the foundational nature of these thoughts.

    4)   Students should be able to understand and evaluate the reasons philosophers have offered for their views.

    5)   Students should be able to understand and apply basic guidelines for good thinking and proper action.

    6)    Students should be able to identify, construct and evaluate arguments.

    7)    Students should be able to understand the nature of inductive and deductive reasoning and valid and sound arguments.

    8)    Students should be able to assess claims, hypotheses, theories, theses, and beliefs with reference to the evidence and reasons which support them.

    9)    Students should learn to identify and avoid confused thinking in their study of such common fallacies as ad hominem, equivocation, hasty generalization, and false cause.

1)   Students should read a literary text to grasp its content

2)   Students should analyze a literary text to explicate its meaning and identify significant formal and linguistic features

       a.  Students should explain ways a particular literary work reflects and shapes the historical, social and cultural circumstances in which it was produced

       b.  Students should identify representative authors and works in a particular literary tradition

       c.   Students should recognize significant themes and techniques shared by works in a particular literary tradition
