Placement & College Readiness Tests

Effective 2013 August 26:

All testing for the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) college readiness requirements must use the new College Board TSI Assessment test.

BEFORE taking the TSI Assessment, all examinees must complete a Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA). When the PAA is complete, you will receive a confirmation email. You must present that email (printed or saved to your portable device) at TREC prior to payment and again when checking in at the TREC testing lab (along with valid photo ID) in order to take the TSI Assessment.

Accuplacer, Compass, and THEA

Also effective 2013 August 26, Accuplacer, Compass, and THEA tests taken on or after that date will not satisfy the TSI requirement.

TREC will administer the Accuplacer for examinees attending private schools or schools outside of Texas, or for purposes other than satisfying TSI requirements. If you need to take an Accuplacer test, please email us. Please allow up to one week to process your email and make the necessary preparations to offer the appropriate test package.

We will continue to offer THEA for examinees who need it for different purposes.

TREC no longer offers the Compass test, except as a remote test. If your school requires a Compass test, that school can create a remote test registration and select Texas State University as your testing location, but we cannot initiate your Compass test without a remote test registration number.
