The center oversees the use of mrInterview and mrScript. mrInterview, part of the SPSS Dimensions product family, can be used to create and manage web-based surveys. It allows the developer to incorporate the security, access, and permissions needed to meet the Institutional Review Board (IRB) guidelines. mrScript enables one to automate date management procedures and to incorporate additional features, such as modifying the presentation style of the survey.
The management of mrInterview and mrScript is overseen by the coordinator, Yaowen Han. The director of TREC (Gail Ryser) and the coordinator provide training to faculty and graduate students in using mrInterview.

Procedures-Before Building Surveys
- To access mrInterview, you must be a faculty or graduate student at Texas State University and attend one of our free training seminars (we do not provide individual training).
- Attend a free training seminar.
- Request access by completing the mrInterview Account Request Form.
Procedures-After Attending Training
- We highly recommend that you do not begin building your survey in mrInterview until you have a final version of your survey created in Word. You may copy and paste questions into the “Build” function.
- Create a new project. Under Project Name, type in your desired project name. Under Project Description, type in the names of all individuals (with their departments) who are working on the project. Provide a 1-3 sentence description of the project’s purpose.
- Email Yaowen Han (yh01) that you are building a new survey and provide the project name and project description. In addition, provide the number of questions, the estimated launch date, and your sampling option (e.g., “Sample Management” or open sample).
- Make as few changes to the survey after you test it as possible. The changed questions do not appear on the survey, but are retained in the database.
- Meet with Yaowen Han before requesting that your survey is launched. This is required and will save you many problems.
- If using sample management, make sure to provide Yaowen with an excel file containing the names (only if you want the email to be personalized) and email addresses using the following format. In addition, you must provide a cover letter for the initial mail out and one for the second invite if desired.
- Do not make changes to your survey after it is launched. This creates numerous problems for you and TREC. If you need to make changes, notify Yaowen Han before you change anything.
