Quick THEA

Testing Times and Fees

The Quick THEA  (QT) is available Tuesday – Friday from 9:00 to 10:30 am.  Quick THEA is administered at the Testing, Research-Support and Evaluation Center (TREC) located in the lower level of Commons Hall.  QT testing at Texas State University is open to all students.  A photo ID is required at the time of registration and payment of fees.  A nonrefundable Texas State University administration fee of $30 must be paid at the time of registration.  A separate QT fee of $29 is paid in the testing room.

The Texas State University administration fee payment may be made only by a separate check or money order (payable to Texas State University), or exact change in cash (NO CREDIT or DEBIT CARDS). This fee is collected upon test registration.

The QT fee payment may be made only by check or money order (payable to Evaluation Systems), VISA or Mastercard.  (NO other credit cards and NO CASH).

Students with Disabilities

If you are a Texas State University student with a disability and need either extended time and/or separate room testing for the QT, disability documentation must be provided to the Office of Disability Services a minimum of two weeks prior to the selected test date.  Contact the Office of Disability Services (512)245-3451 (Voice/TTY).

Texas State University students seeking special accommodations other than extended time or separate room testing should register for one of the national Saturday THEA test dates administered by Evaluation Systems.

Non-Texas State University students needing any disability accommodations should register for one of the national Saturday THEA test dates administered by Evaluation Systems.

ID Requirements

All examinees must present photo identification (driver’s license, military ID, student ID, passport or other government agency or employer issued ID) on the morning of the test.  Theme park ID’s, club membership ID’s, social security cards, birth certificates, temporary driver’s license without photo, credit cards with or without photo, and “flea-market” ID’s will not be accepted as identification.

Other acceptable forms of ID are:

  • Personal recognition by a member of the faculty or permanent staff of Texas State Univ.
  • School yearbook photo with examinee’s name captioned.
  • Name and brief description of the student written on school stationery that the student has signed in the presence of the school principal or a counselor, who must cosign.

Calculator Policy

Examinees may use a four-function, non-programmable calculator (with square root and percent keys).  Examinees must bring their own calculators to the test administration.  The following types of calculators are not permitted (For illustration only, not an  exclusive list):

Calculator watches, Electronic writing pads or pen-input devices, Scientific or graphing calculators, Calculators with paper tape, Pocket organizers, Calculators that make noise or “talk,” Handheld, laptop, or notebook computers, Calculators with electrical cords, Calculators with an alpha-numeric keyboard, Business or financial planning calculators

THEA Quick Test Special Administration Option

This option is available to those who cannot begin a Quick THEA during normal QT hours (9-10:30am).  A special administration appointment may be made at least one week in advance for a Quick THEA test to begin between the hours of 10:30 am – 1:00 pm.  The administrative fee for a special administration is $70.00, in addition to the QT fee of $29.00.  Appointments may be made in-person by stopping by the TREC or by calling (512) 245-2276.

All the above stated acceptable forms of payment and identification requirements apply to this option also.  Payment of fees are made on the day of the test.  Individuals who are more than 15 minutes late for their appointment test time must reschedule a new test date and time (NO EXCEPTIONS).

If you have previously taken the THEA Quick Test, be aware that the THEA Quick Test policies prohibit the retaking of the QT within 30 days of your last QT test date.

THEA as a math placement test

Math placement levels for developmental math or for college algebra or its equivalent may be obtained through the math subscore of the THEA or QuickTHEA.
