The TSI Assessment is a college readiness test. Effective August 26, 2013 no other assessment tests will be used to satisfy the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements for college readiness. Test scores achieved prior to this date will still satisfy TSI requirements.
Follow the steps below to take the TSI assessment at Texas State University. (These steps are NOT to request a TSI remote voucher, which allows you to take the TSI at another site.)
Complete the TSI Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA).
After completing the PAA, you will be emailed a confirmation page. Either print that page or save it to your mobile device and present it when you come to take your assessment.
Pay testing fees after you verify your TSI status with the TSI office (email@example.com).
Also note: TEMC cannot provide full or partial refunds for any fees or other payments beyond one week from the date of payment.
Decide when to take the test.
The TSI Assessment can be taken any time during our regular testing lab hours. The TSI is an untimed test, but we recommend allowing two hours for writing, and at least one hour each for reading and math. Thus, if you are taking all three sections, we advise you to arrive no later than 12:30 pm for approximately four hours of testing.
Our testing lab will close at normally scheduled closing times at 4:50 pm. If a test is unfinished at closing time, it will be suspended, and the examinee may return within two business days to complete it. If the test is completed within two business days, no additional fee will be charged. Otherwise, an additional $20 be charged for each subject area yet to be completed.
Step 4 (Test day)
TEMC is located in the ground level of the Commons, room G4. Bring the following documents:
- Valid photo ID (e.g., Texas State student ID or driver’s license)
- Pre-Assessment Activity Completion Certificate
- Testing fee receipt.
Examinees with Testing Accommodations
All examinees who require accommodations must complete an Exam Request Form to test at our facility at least two weeks prior to the desired exam date. Requests will be processed within two business days. Please note our testing lab hours and available start times for the exam you wish to take when selecting your appointment time and make sure to take into account additional time you may need.
For Texas State students who need to test at another testing center
Please fill out our Request for Remote TSI form at least one week prior to the date you would like to test. Requests not submitted at least one week prior to the desired administration date may not be able to be arranged in time. The fee to set up a remote TSI Assessments at another testing site is $30 per voucher.
For students applying to / attending other schools who want to test at Texas State TEMC
Texas State University is listed as a remote testing site within the Accuplacer system, so a representative of your school can create a voucher for you to take your test here. The fee to take TSI Assessments at TEMC using a remote voucher for another school is $15 per subject (all three subjects is $45).
