The Allen Keller Company, a heavy highway road construction company based in Fredericksburg, TX, has an opening for an Estimator, based out of its Fredericksburg office. The position of an Estimator will analyze, prepare and review bids for highway, roadway, and bridge projects, primarily through TXDOT.

Regular Job Duties include the following :

1. Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops

2.Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues

3.Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates

4. Review specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine and prepare scopes of work and required contents of various budgets, pre-con proposals, and hard bids.

5. Administer full cycle take-offs and pricing, subcontractor coordination evaluation of skills, bid preparation, and submittal of bids

6. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors

7. Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors

8. Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work

9. Provide leadership to others through example and by sharing knowledge and skill

10. Manage multiple projects simultaneously

11. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

12. Present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public

13.Generate and submit complete estimates, using Heavy Bid.

14. Source new opportunities , leads and projects

15. Other unlisted duties will be assigned

Other skills include : the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; the ability to multi-task and establish priorities; be goal oriented and a self-starter; have strong communication and analytical skills; the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables; ability to estimates consistently and accurately; estimates accurately to empirical data; estimating to schedules and deadlines; provide project management assistance as needed; and maintains a backlog at designated levels.

Qualifications:

Three to five years of experience on all aspects of Heavy Highway construction as an Estimator including bridges, dirt, concrete, and similar; Experience as a Project Manager or Project Engineer is preferred; Preference given for a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar degree. A minimum Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or relevant years of experience will be considered; Thorough knowledge of TXDOT specifications; Moderate to high level of proficiency operating Heavy Bid, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint; Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Full understanding of Construction Math concepts.

Starting pay is dependent upon experience. Full benefits would start after 60 days to include health, dental and life insurance, and eligibility in the 401k plan would start after one year of employment. Successful applicant would be required to relocate to the Hill Country region (Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Comfort, etc).  Job Summary:

Under the supervision of Quality Control Manger, the QCT will coordinate with production to verify structural specification are met, retrieve and test samples in the laboratory, and verify end product is produced according to various agency standards (ASTM, TXDOT, etc.) 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

 •Verify that lab equipment is calibrated regularly and maintain calibration records. 

•Compile, store, and maintain quality records, and produce reports as needed. 

•Verify that materials are available to produce final product.  Discuss discrepancies with floor supervisors and rectify, if necessary. 

•Arrange internal quality audits. 

•Must comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.  Safety equipment means clothing and apparatus including, but not limited to hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, back support belts, and gloves. 

•Perform other duties as assigned.

We are on track to build and sell forty homes this year. Our homes can be built from start to finish in four months and we have fifteen homes under construction at all times. The intern will be able to experience all phases of construction including; buying lots, site planning, scheduling subs and materials, inspections, closing documents, and sales.
