There are two motorcycle courses you can register for:
1. Basic Motorcycle Course (required by DPS to obtain license)
or
2. Experienced Motorcycle Course (Must have a current Class M drivers license)
- Persons ages 15-17 must have a valid instruction permit or license from Texas to take these classes.
- Persons ages 18 and over must have a valid instruction permit or license from any state.
- All courses are conducted at the Texas State University - San Marcos Traffic Safety Center located at 4400 Airport Hwy. 21.
Basic Motorcycle Safety Course
Weekend courses are held on Friday 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm
Weekday courses are held on Tuesday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm, Wednesday and Thursday 8:30 am - 1:30pm
Course Cost: $171.00
$85.50 for student instructor led course (date will be shown below with (**) if available)

Your registration will not be processed, and you will not be placed in a class, until payment is received. Motorcyles and textbooks are provided. There are loan helmets and cotton gloves also available. You will be issued a certificate upon completion of this course for an insurance discount or possible ticket dismissal. Successful class completion eliminates the DPS riding test for licensing purposes.
Experienced Motorcycle Safety Course
Course is scheduled from 9:00am - 5:00pm
Course Fee - $45.00
(Bring your own bike.)

Your registration will not be processed, and you will not be placed in a class, until payment is received.
You must have a current Class M driver’s license and proof of motorcycle insurance to take this course. Motorcycles are not provided with the Experienced Rider Course. You must bring your own motorcycle (no size limit) with current registration and inspection sticker. Loan helmets are available.
You will be issued a certificate upon completion of this course for an insurance discount or possible ticket dismissal. Successful class completion eliminates the DPS riding test for licensing purposes.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT ITEMS:
► You will not be added to a class roster UNTIL YOU HAVE PAID.
►If you do not attend the class and request a refund, a $25 administrative fee will be deducted
from the amount refunded.
► Please note that payment cannot be made on-line for the half-price student-led class.
