Sid Gibbens is an example of one who succeeded on the playing field as well as in the classroom. Now, he is sharing his knowledge to the youngsters of America.

Gibbens was a two-year selection to the All-Lone Star Conference second team as a center back in 1956 and ’57 for R.W. Parker. Numerous other awards followed such as All-Texas College, All-American Mid-Bracket honorable mention, and in 1958 he garnered a spot on the Dallas Morning News All-Texas squad. However, his success was not limited to the gridiron. Gibbens was chosen the outstanding student for SWT in 1957-58.

The 1959 graduate of SWT has been a part of the public education field for over 30 years. Gibbens began as a teacher for the first ten years, before moving into the title of principal. He served as the principal for Page Middle School, Mann High School, and then on to Antonio’s Edison High School.
