Roddy Bagley rounds out the 1990 “T” Association Hall of
Honor threesome. Athletics were always very important to Bagley and
were a major emphasis in his life.
As the year’s passed, Bagley continued to hold Southwest Texas
athletics, especially the “T” Association, in highest esteem.
Nothing ever took the place of athletics in Roddy’s life.
Bagley
began playing sports in junior high and continued throughout college.
From 1960-64, Bagley played football under head coach Milton Jowers
and was an all-Lone Star Conference safety and co-captain of two district
championship teams. He also helped lead his team to a perfect 10-0 record
in 1963. Jowers instilled in him and his teammates the dedication to
become a quality young man with high ideals.
In
his undergraduate years and away from athletics, Bagley was recognized
as a member of Who’s Who among American Colleges and Universities,
a Gaillardian in 1961 and a class officer.
Bagley
chose the career path to be a coach and a math teacher after graduation
from SWT. He spent time at Holmes High School in San Antonio and later
taught and coached at San Marcos high school where he went on to become
the assistant principal.
From
1969 until his passing in Sept. of 1987, Bagley was the district manager
of the Lower Colorado River Authority. He is survived by his wife, Joann
Bagley.
