The 1978 Lone Star Conference Offensive Football Player of the Year, Paul Darby, Jr., is a member of the “T” Association Hall of Honor Class of ’95.

Darby, who lettered in football and track from 1976-79, holds the single game rushing record of 287 yards at Southwest Texas in a 1978 contest against Prairie View A&M.

In track, Darby was a member of the 1976 LSC mile relay champion and the 1978 LSC 440 relay championship team. Also in 1978, he qualified for the NAIA national meet in the 100 meter dash.

Darby currently teaches and coaches football in Austin. He is also a member of the Montopolis Neighborhood Advisory Board and serves as a mentor on the Project Man program.

While at SWT, Darby was president of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. From 1979-81, he played football for the New York Jets of the National Football League.
