At SWT, Dennis Colvin had a very successful football career. Colvin
then carried the success he had on the football field over to a whole
different arena.
Colvin,
an offensive tackle, completed a spectacular collegiate football career
in 1973. As a Bobcat, Colvin captured a number of athletic awards and
honors. In 1971, he was named All-Lone Star Conference Honorable Mention.
In 1973, Colvin finished his career as an All-Lone Star Conference Second
Team selection, J.C. Kellam Outstanding Senior Football Player, and
was selected to the SWT All-Decade team of the 70’s. In 1974,
Colvin was selected in the 13th round of the NFL Draft, by the New York
Jets. He decided to go north to play in the Canadian Football League
for the British Columbia Lions, and then for the Calgary Stampeders.
After
his football days were done, Colvin began work as a Sales Representative
for the Houston Beverage District. More than 13 years later, Colvin,
after stops in Kansas City, Denver, Cincinnati, and St. Louis, would
return to Houston, where he works today as a District Sales Manager
for Houston Beverage.
