GSP Resources (Texas State Only)

Basic Facts About the GSP
The GSP test

  • Is 100 questions long, divided into portions on grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
  • Gives students 90 minutes to finish;
  • Allows only scratch paper provided by the Testing Center.

The Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation (GSP) test is required for Mass Communications (MC) majors. Until they have passed the GSP, MC students are considered pre-majors and may register for no more than 15 hours of MC courses; transfer students may register for no more than 6 hours of MC courses. Students can take the test up to three times. For more information, contact Mr. Harry Bowers, MC advisor, at (512) 245-2656.

The GSP test is offered at the Texas State Testing, Research-Support and Evaluation Center (TREC) (512) 245-2276.

SLAC recommends that you prepare for the test by using our practice test, in-house tutoring, online tutoring, and handouts. For additional help, link to the Texas State Writing Center.
