Norm Whalen 1920-2008
Professor of Anthropology Emeritus Norman Matthew Whalen, 87, passed
away on February 27, 2008, He served in WW II with the 98th
Bomber Group and was a professor of Anthropology here from 1972 until
his retirement in 2004. His archaeological surveys in Saudi Arabia
during the 1980s resulted in his being selected as Fellow of the Royal
Geographical Society. Obituaries were published on the Liberal Arts Website

Jack Gravitt 1936-2008
Distinguished Professor of English Emeritus Garland Jack Gravitt died
on February 23, 2008, at the age of 71. A talented teacher and a
productive scholar, Jack served as Chair of the English Department from
1983 to 1987 and Dean of the School of Liberal Arts from 1987 until his
retirement in May of 2000. See
