Dr. Jian Shen Receives Award from Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
With funds from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Dr. Jian Shen, Associate Professor of Mathematics, will continue his research which focuses on graph theory and algorithm. He will study the case of the Caccetta-Haggkvist conjecture—a case which has baffled graph theorists for three decades. The research promises to lead to a better understanding of the relationship among various basic parameters of digraphs.
During the course of this project, Dr. Shen will also train graduate and undergraduate students in Discrete Mathematics, as well as work with high school students on research projects for the annual Siemens-Westinghouse Competition. Since 2003, Dr. Shen has worked with students in the Texas State Honors Summer Math Camp, and has supervised 6 teams (18 students) on research for that competition.
