Physics 3-2 Program
For those students interested in engineering but not wishing to start their academic career at a large university with an engineering school, TxState has several options for you.
First, there is what we call the 3-2 option. This is a program where you attend Texas State as a physics or math major (chemistry if you want chemical engineering) for about three years. After you complete the required courses here at Texas State, you transfer to a university that has an accredited engineering program. When you complete your engineering degree, Texas State will award you a Bachelor of Science degree in physics or math, depending on your major at Texas State. Thus, the 3-2 option would put you into the job market with two degrees. One degree from your engineering school and the other from Texas State.
Second, there is the straight pre-engineering option (sometimes called the 2-2 option). This option is for the student who wants an engineering degree but prefers to start his or her academic career in the 'small school atmosphere' of Texas State. Here you would just take courses that transfer to your chosen engineer school. Typically this takes about two years.
