Presentation Awards
Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to compete for an award. Students may compete with either a poster or an oral contribution to the conference. To be eligible for a presentation award ($200), please follow these instructions. Each student may only compete with one presentation.
- On the electronic APS abstract form, students must be listed as the first author and presenter of the paper. The deadline for submitting an APS abstract is Friday, September 25, 2009. Please choose one of the APS sorting categories when submitting your abstract as SPS and AAPT papers are not eligible for awards.
- In the "Special Instructions" line, students must enter "Graduate Competition" or "Undergraduate Competition" as appropriate. If you do not indicate on the APS electronic abstract form that you are competing for an award, your paper will not be judged.
- Students must pre-register for the meeting by the deadline of October 1, 2009 and indicate that they are competing for an award on the Registration Form.
- Your mailing address and e-mail address must be on both the electronic abstract form and the pre-registration form.
Travel Awards
You must be a student from the TSAPS to qualify for a travel award. Awards are made to support a student's travel costs up to a maximum award of $150.
Only students who enter the TSAPS Presentation Award competition (see above) will be considered for a TSAPS Student Travel award. There are two additional requirements to be eligible for a TSAPS Student Travel Award:
- By 5pm CDT Friday, September 25, 2009, the supervisor or Department Chair of the student must submit an e-mail letter in support of a student travel award to TSAPS Secretary-Treasurer, Dr. Charles W. Myles at Charley.Myles@ttu.edu. The letter should have "Support for Student Travel Award" in the subject line. It should also contain a) the student’s email address, b) the student’s complete mailing address, and c) the student’s Social Security number. (APS requires both the mailing address and the Social Security number before a check is issued).
- Students must indicate on the Fall, 2009 TSAPS Meeting Registration Form that they are either a current member of the TSAPS or that they will become a member before the meeting. TSAPS Membership IS REQUIRED before a travel award check is issued.
Recipients of a TSAPS Student Travel award will be notified by e-mail approximately one week before the meeting, and the award checks will be available at the registration desk upon presenting evidence of membership in the Texas Section of the APS.
