Survival Sign Language



  • To eliminate fear and intimidation factors when serving and working with persons who are deaf
  • To provide faculty and staff information that will benefit them personally when interacting with deaf persons


Sessions will include:

  • Receptive/expressive sign skills
  • Communication tips
  • Deaf culture
  • Questions concerning use of an interpreter:
    • What is an interpreter?
    • Why do I need an interpreter?
    • What is the interpreter’s role?
    • What are the interpreter’s limitations?
    • How do I request an interpreter through ODS?


Attendance will be documented at all sessions.  Professional Development credit will be given with attendance at a minimum of 6 sessions.


This course could qualify for 9.6 CPE credits through the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for Certified Public Accountants (CPAs).

Registration opens approximately 3 weeks prior and closes 1 week prior.
