Contracted Services

This workshop is general training for contracted services under $25,000. The targeted audience is departmental administrative assistants and other new personnel who process contracts and payment vouchers. The material is regularly updated, so it is also beneficial for existing personnel, or those who need a refresher.

The topics covered will be:

1. Contracted personal services and independent contractors

  • How to determine the correct worker classification 
  • Case study--contracted services forms

2. Vendor maintenance

  • How to set up a new vendor
  • Case study--new vs. existing vendor forms

3. Purchase requisitions and contracts

  • How to create a vendor contract
  • When a purchase order is required
  • Case study--how to decide which process to use

4. Payables--paying contractors and other types of payments

  • Review of payment voucher form
  • Other types of payments to individuals
  • Travel reimbursements
  • Case study--grant participant form

5.  Paying foreign visitors and other tax issues

  • Forms and documentation needed
  • Tax withholding
  • Case study--foreign visitors to campus
