This class is a primer to information security for Texas State faculty and staff and will include the following topics:
     •    Appropriate use policy (UPPS 04.01.07)
     •    Confidential information and how it is classified on our campus
     •    Current threats in information security and ways to protect against them, e.g.:
            ➢    SPAM
            ➢    Phishing
            ➢    Malware
            ➢    Spyware
     •    Best practices for:
            ➢    Data backup
            ➢    System patching
            ➢    Using anti-virus software
            ➢    Host-based firewalls
            ➢    Creating user accounts and passwords
            ➢    Mobile computing and portable media
            ➢    Wireless network security in and out of the office
            ➢    Securing your home computer
            ➢    Securely using the internet
            ➢    Securing confidential information
            ➢    Social networking
     •    Do you have Personally Identifiable Information (PII) on your computer? Learn how to find it and what to do about it.
     •    Techniques for protecting yourself from identity theft and internet fraud
     •    Music and file sharing, mitigating peer-to-peer risks, from both the security and legal perspectives
     •    How to sign up for the Information Security listserv
