This class is a primer to Information Security for Texas State faculty and staff and will include the following topics:

- Current threats in Information Security and ways to protect against them, eg.:

§ Using anti-virus software
§ Host-based firewalls
§ Creating user accounts and passwords
§ Mobile computing and portable media
§ Wireless network security in and out of the office
§ Securing your home computer
§ Securely using the Internet
§ Securing confidential information
- Do you have Personally Identifiable Information (PII) on your computer? Learn how to find out and what to do about it
- Techniques for protecting yourself from identity theft and Internet fraud
- Safety tips for using social networking sites (MySpace, Facebook, etc.)
- Music and file sharing, mitigating peer-to-peer risks, from both the security perspective and legal perspective
- How to sign up for the Information-Security listserv
- How to report a suspected security breach or policy violation
