PAWS Preview Volunteers

PAWS Preview is a transition program, designed to give new students at Texas State ‘just in time’ information that will help them be successful college students. After the completion of New Student Orientation, students will receive notification of the session they are assigned to attend. This is a required program for all entering freshmen with 0-29 credit hours. Their first year at a new university can set the tone for your entire college experience -- it's important to get off to the right start. PAWS Preview will provide the tips and resources students need to succeed both in and out of the classroom. To go to the official PAWS preview website click here.

Parent-to-Parent Panel Discussion

“ Parents Are Support Systems for Students”

As support systems to our students, parents are challenged to solve problems and offer advice everyday. The Parents Association has found that inviting new college parents to have a dialogue with second and third year college parents creates an opportunity to share excellent tips and hints for helping students have a successful freshman year. The Parents Association is proud to co-sponsor this panel discussion with Judy Row, Director, University Alcohol and Drug Resource Center (ADRC).

This moderated discussion includes topics about homesickness, academics, student money management, safety, as well as many more issues. Bring your concerns and questions to the discussion and leave with some excellent advice and even a little less stress.

New Student Convocation

All new students are required to attend New Student Convocation, and their parents are also welcome to attend the kick off ceremony for the fall semester.  The convocation marks the beginning of your student’s college career and gives him or her an opportunity to meet members of the administration, faculty, student body, alumni and the city of San Marcos.

Students in Strahan line up to take their seats for convocation.
