Aerospace Studies Arnold Air Society Conference - $1,000 Funds to cover travel expenses for 25 students to attend the National Conference in Chicago, IL and an Area Conference, with a focus on leadership and professional development through community service and volunteerism. Students also compete for national awards.
Agriculture Department “Bobcat Bloom Delivery Vehicle - $1,000 Funds to purchase a golf cart to help students in carrying multiple, heavy arrangements and to grow the program and hasten deliveries of perishable cut flowers.
Annual Giving “Senior Giving Program” $1,000 Funds to kick start the Senior Giving program which serves to educate students and inform them how much alumni help in the overall completion of their degrees. Senior student donations will impact all students.
Black Men United “Leadership Conference” - $600 Funds to support student attendance at the Collegiate African American Male Leadership Conference: “Am I My Brother’s Keeper” in Kansas City, MO.
Black Women United – R.E.A.L. Woman’s Retreat - $600 Funds to support the retreat for 72 students and 10 faculty/staff members that focuses on lessons in building self esteem and confidence to bridge the gap between women who are just beginning their college careers with those who have been at Texas State and are on a great path in life.
6th Annual Bobcat Build - $2,000 Studentcommunity Service Day in the spring semester. Service projects include assisting schools, churches, community centers, animal shelters and neighborhood cleanups. Sponsorship funds will be used to purchase t-shirts for all student volunteers and staff. Last year, more than 2,700 students, faculty, staff and parents volunteered for over 100 jobsites.
CASO Dean’s List 4.0 Recognition - $650 Funds to purchase approximately 175 4.0 T-shirts. All 4.0 students are invited to attend the reception each semester at which time they are presented the 4.0 T-shirt.
CASO Wall of Fame - $500 Sponsorship funds to expand on a new program started last year to recognize outstanding student leaders and organizations. Nominations will be accepted by faculty and staff each month, beginning in October. Selected student leaders and student organizations will be recognized on a newly created plaque for the “wall of fame” and receive a portfolio (leader) or scrapbook (organization).
Career Services SIG13 Education Program and Book of Lists - $1,600 1) The SIG13 on-line program (replaces eDiscover) will continue to provide hundreds of students with assessments and up-to-date market information to facilitate career decision-making. The new program is also available through User IDs to any student or alum who seeks help. 2) New editions of the “Book of Lists” collection. The books include most major employers in a major city, arranged in categories and provide students with both potential employers and career information.
Cheerleading Program/Mascot Program - $2,500 Funds for daily operations for both the all-girl and co-ed squads and to cover the costs of tangible items such as equipment, uniforms, warm-ups and shoes. A portion of the funding will be used to cover travel expenses to UCA college cheerleading nationals to represent Texas State. There are 45 cheerleaders, 3 mascots and 3 coaches.
Counseling Center - $6,500 Funds to print the First Year Passages calendar given to parents attending New Student and Transfer Student Orientation and to renewing members of the Parents Association. This has been a very positive aid for parents in helping their students “survive” the freshman year.
Curriculum and Instruction Student Enrollment and Advising Management System (SEAMS) - $2,000
The SEAMS project is designed to promote student retention and reduce probations and suspensions of students who plan to enter the undergraduate teacher preparation program in the College of Education. The Center for Student and
Professional Services will host three freshman orientation sessions each semester to attract and retain students who are considering becoming teachers. Funds are needed to provide students with flash-drives which will contain all the information and data links discussed in the presentation.
Emerging Stars Summer Bridge Program - $700 Sponsorship of a five-week intensive program during Summer Session II.
Family & Consumer Sciences “Developing the Parental Support of College Students Scale” - $1,000 Funds to provide 40 $50 incentives for student participation in an online survey examining the role parents play in college students’ adjustment and achievement. The results of this project will be beneficial to university personnel and parents at universities across the country.
Family & Consumer Sciences “Financial Literacy Program” - $3,000 Funds to support the first year of the initiative that includes peer-to-peer financial presentations, seminars and counseling on personal finance topics. The program will allow students to meet current financial needs through sound money management methods; establish, protest and/or improve their credit standing; learn the importance of consumer advocacy and protection; and graduate with a plan to repay student loans.
Family & Consumer Sciences “Forensic Quality Polarizing Light Microscope” - $1,700 Microscope to demonstrate the physical properties of fibers for the instruction of the Textiles course.
Family Weekend Sponsors - $300 Sponsorship of t-shirts to help offset costs associated with the campus-wide annual event -- Family Weekend.
Financial Aid “Calming the Wait for Financial Aid Information” - $850 Funds to purchase refreshments for students and their families during New Student Orientation sessions. Served over 5,500 clients during NSO 2007.
Freeman Ranch- $5,000 Support provided to: 1) student-participation programs created last year;2) graduate student support; 3) materials and rockwork assistance for wildlife drinker in front pasture; and4) blinds and other materials for youth hunting.
Geography Department “Celebrating Geography Awareness Week (GAW) - $500 Funds to purchase low cost educational materials for approximately 4,000+ students in an effort to increase geographic literacy among Americans.
Department of Geography “Geography Alumni Business Card Directory” - $600 The directory is a collection of current business cards from graduates of the Texas State Dept. of Geography and serves to demonstrate the wide range of job and career opportunities. The publication is used by undergraduate and graduate advisors as a recruiting tool during Bobcat Days, visits to middle and high school and during other recruiting events. Approx. 3,500 copies of the publication are distributed to K-12 teachers and counselors who advise students about potential career and educational pathways, current undergraduate and graduate students and former students.
Geography Department “Geography Summer Academy for Minority Scholars” - $750 Funds to host a 1-week, in-residence workshop for minority high school students from across the state of Texas. A group of 35-40 students, along with 10-12 high school teachers are selected to experience “college life” at Texas State University. The schedule includes lectures, demonstrations, lab instruction and field exercises related to geography and the environment. During the week, Texas state undergraduate and graduate students are employed to serve as mentors.
Health Conference “Promoting a Healthy Multicultural Campus Community” - $700 Sponsorship of the Health Conference designed to provide information to promote physical health and mental health of our multicultural communities and to promote a more supportive and inclusive multicultural campus.
Hip Hop Congress “Kidz T-shirts” - $500 Funds to assist this student group in its recruitment efforts at local schools in San Marcos and surrounding cities.
Hispanic Business Student Association National Conference - $500 Funds to support student attendance at this conference in Los Angeles, CA.
Journalism and Mass Communication, School of “American Red Cross Student Chapter” - $1,000 Funds to create a student Red Cross chapter at Texas State. The chapter would have monthly meetings open to all students covering a variety of elements of safety, first-aid and disaster volunteer training. In the spring 2008 conduct a large event on the Quad with the goal of training100 students in CPR.
Library (Alkek) - $8,000 Electronic databases continue to be the most heavily used information resource in the library; 1.7 million database searches were conducted last academic year. Funds will help cover the cost for library database licenses.
Mitte Honors Program - $1,000 Funds to provide a professionally curated, student involved, art/photography gallery in the Mitte Honors Coffee Forum and contiguous halls to reflect and enhance the campus-wide themes of the Common Experience.
Multicultural Student Affairs - $2,000 Sponsorship of the 25th Annual Martin Luther King Celebration program designed to develop unity with Texas State and the San Marcos Community. The celebration, held in January, included the MLK Luncheon, Candlelight March and Keynote Program that focuses on diversity to create an awareness of African American and MLK’s contributions to the US.
Music, School of “Student Presentations at Professional Conferences” - $1,000 Funds to support student presentations at professional conferences.
Native American Student Association “Celebration of People” - $590 Sponsorship of the 3rd annual Celebration of the People festival.
One-Time Funding Requests (Coordinator’s Discretionary) - $1,000 Funds for one-time requests as determined by the Parents Association Coordinator.
PAWS Preview T-shirts - $1,500 Funds to purchase t-shirts for all new students to Texas State University. This is a collaborative effort with the Alumni Association, University Bookstore and New Student Convocation.
Political Science - $750 Funds for student travel and hotel expense for 3-day Organization of American States Student Competition in San Antonio.
Round Rock Higher Education Center (RRHEC) “Campus Technology Center” - $1,025 Funds to provide free computer classes to students at the RRHEC (approx. 1,350).
South Asian Students Association - $200 Funds provided for new student organization.
SteelDrum Band, Panorama - $1,000 Funds to purchase new music, equipment and supplies, travel, and tuning and maintenance of steel drums.
Strutters Spring Show - $2,500 Funds to support of the Strutters Spring Show and to purchase additional costumes.
Student Academic Support Programs “Tutor Training Conference” - $1,500 Funds to help support the Tutor Training Conference for Texas State’s tutors. The goal of this program is to improve the level of academic support provided to students.
Student Foundation - $600 To purchase additional blazers for new Student Foundation members who represent the president and university at numerous events.
Student Foundation Bobcat Pause - $540 Bobcat Pause provides the Texas State community with a time to remember faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends who have passed away during the year. Funds for a reception after the ceremony.
Student Learning Assistance Center (SLAC) - $6,000 Funds used to furnish academic assistance to students by providing salaries for tutors and allowing continued expansion and improvement of SLAC’s website, which provides online tutoring in writing and math. The Association has provided funding to SLAC for the past 28 years!
Student Success Team – Student Success Day - $500 Program is designed to provide current information directly to students regarding academic and personal success.Funds will purchase refreshments, paper products, decorations and publications to create awareness of the day.
Student Support Services – Books for Success - $5,000 Retention effort to serve students with disabilities and who are low income and/or first generation by providing $250 for 20 students for books.
Student Volunteer Connection “2008 Alternative Spring Break Trip” - $500 Funds to cover transportation, food and lodging costs for participants in the 2008 Proyecto Azteca Colonias program.
Theatre and Dance Lighting for Concerts Project - $1,000 Funds to purchase a new lighting system for the program.
Theatre and Dance “The Piano Lesson” - $750 Funds to offset the cost of bringing in guest director Christine Menzies for “The Piano Lesson,” a Pulitzer Prize winning drama by African American playwright August Wilson.
University Ambassadors - $750 Funds to purchase polos. Ambassadors serve as student hosts, tour guides and student recruiters for the university and local community.
University Bands (School of Music, Dept. of Bands) - $ 6,073 To purchase Sousaphone cases to protect the instruments purchased last year, and upgrades for mallet instruments.
University Star, The On-line Visual News Broadcasts - $3,400 Funds to produce an on-line video version of The University Star (three newscasts a day).
Writing Center - $3,000 Funds to renovate the space by installing partitions to create individual tutoring spaces, eliminating noise and visual distractions. In 2006, 3,500 students used the Writing Center's 1:1 tutorial services; the proposed renovation will benefit thousands of students yearly. Funds also for promotional brochures, pencils, post-it notes, highlighters, and computer maintenance bulk supplies such as air cans and computer screen cleaners.
