Scholarship Guidelines for 2009-2010
The Texas State Parents Association, contingent with funds raised each year, will provide additional academic scholarships according to the guidelines listed below. The Association will award $30,000 in scholarships to Texas State students for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Guidelines for scholarship awards:
o Eighty percent of the money ($24,000) is awarded to students whose family is a member of the Texas State Parents Association (parent, grandparents, aunts, etc.).
o Ten percent of the money ($3,000) is awarded to first generation students.
o Ten percent of the money ($3,000) will be used for “special need” students. The recipients will be chosen at the discretion of the Director of Student Financial Aid. This award is not renewable. The student must meet the scholarship requirements.
The recipient must meet the following requirements:
o Minimum of 2.5 GPA
o Average 12 hours/semester or 24 hours/year
The scholarship recipient will be awarded $1,000 per academic year.
The scholarship will be renewable for up to three years.
If the application pool exceeds the number of scholarships available, extra-curricular activities will be used to further qualify the applicants.
These scholarships do not have to be need based.
From time to time, upon the recommendation of the Parent Relations Coordinator, additional scholarships can be awarded. The prospective scholarship recipient must complete the general scholarship application and submit it to the Scholarship Office prior to a scholarship being awarded. All scholarship award decisions are made through the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
Applicants should complete the general scholarship application and include “Parents Association” in the first blank that asks "If applying for specific scholarship(s), please name."
